Adaptive modulation using outdated samples of another fading channel

چکیده
Adaptive transmission techniques, such as adaptive modulation and coding, adaptive power control, adaptive transmitter antenna diversity, etc., generally require precise channel estimation and channel state information (CSI) feedback. For fast vehicle speeds, reliable adaptive transmission also requires prediction of future CSI since the channel conditions are rapidly time-variant. In this paper, we propose to use past channel observations of one carrier to predict future CSI and perform adaptive modulation without feedback for another correlated carrier. Statistical model of the prediction error that depends on the frequency and time correlation is developed and is used in the design of reliable adaptive modulation methods. Significant gains relative to non-adaptive techniques are demonstrated for sufficiently correlated channels and realistic prediction range.

Empirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation
This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system. In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...
متن کاملImpact of Uncertain Channel Estimation and Outdated Feedback on the Adaptive M -PSK Modulation
This paper investigates an adaptive M -ary phaseshift keying (M -PSK) modulation scheme over Rayleigh flat fading channels. The data rate is adapted according to the channel state. At the receiver, the fading is estimated using pilot symbols. To cancel the channel impact, we correct the received signal by dividing it by the estimated value of the fading. So, we propose to adjust the modulation ...
متن کاملAdaptive Bit - Interleaved Coded Modulation Fortime - Varying Channels Using Outdated Fading
Adaptive signaling schemes, which employ the current channel fading values to optimize the transmitted signal, have recently been presented for time-varying Rayleigh fading channels. These schemes have employed set-partitioned trellis-coded modulation (TCM) and have adapted the number of uncoded bits on a given symbol based on the corresponding channel estimate. However, the characterization of...

-We theoretically analyze the statistical behavior of prediction errors generated by our previously proposed long range prediction algorithm, and investigate adaptive modulation design using predicted channel state information (CSI). Both numerical and simulation results show that accurate prediction of the fading channel far ahead makes adaptive transmission feasible for rapidly timevarying mo...
